Guest Speakers, New Students, Multiplication Methods, 3 Way Conferences, Issues Centers and More in Room 37 this Week

It is exciting times for grade 4/5 this week in room 37 as we move into a very busy January finish!

Unit of Inquiry

This week students and teachers would like to thank local officials and experts from various non-governmental organisations who are graciously lending their time to help students learn about major issues that face Cambodia and the world.

Amongst these experts will be: Kristin Dadey from the International Organisation for Migration, James Sutherland from Friends International, Rana Flowers from UNICEF, and Silas Everett from the Asia Foundation.

Students are also working through a series of center activities based on issues such as hunger, access to education, access to water, poverty, child labor, and children's rights. As part of these centers, students are learning about potential actions that can be taken to help solve these issues.

Mathematics

This week, students continue to learn how to solve multiplication problems involving multiple digit multipliers while beginning to explore fractions. Ultimately, they will learn to use the grid method, and area models, while experimenting with the standard algorithm in order to solve these multiplication problems.

3 Way Conferences on Thursday, January 22 and Friday, January 23

Students are also preparing for their 3 way conferences with parents and teacher this week. If you are unsure of your allotted conference time, please stop in at the office, send an email to me, or ask your child to ask me.

Welcome to Alex and Jules

Students and teachers welcome Alex into Grade 5 and Jules into Grade 4. We all look forward to working with you and becoming friends!

International Day

Please remember International Day is this Saturday, January 24 at the ISPP Secondary field. See you there, perhaps at the booth of your country!
